Some 50 dogs were found dead and hundreds of others were saved from certain death after police discovered them inside a parked truck in western Turkey's Denizli province. Officers inspecting a truck where the cries of animals were heard found dogs piled up in the covered back of the truck in the province's Çivril district. Some were apparently suffocated to death while others jumped over officers opening the back of the truck seeking a breath of fresh air. When the truck's driver was questioned by police, he said he was working for a subcontractor hired by the municipality of Uşak, a nearby province, to release the stray dogs in Çivril. Uşak municipality denied the allegations, and an investigation is underway.
