A total of 41 PKK terrorists have been killed in operations conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces in Turkey's southeastern Uludere district and Northern Iraq's Qandil Mountains, Chief of Staff announced on Saturday in a written statement.
The statement added that a gendarmerie specialist sergeant was wounded in a terrorist attack carried out against the Turkish forces and the Turkish security forces retaliated with an air campaign.
12 terrorists were killed in Uludere district area and 29 were killed in Qandil Mountains, during the air campaign which continued for two days, the statement said.
Formed in 1978, the terrorist group has been fighting the Turkish government for an independent state until the early 2000's. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
The PKK announced on July 11 that the cease-fire which was declared via a message from the PKK's imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan in 2013 has ended.
The Turkish Air Force has been carrying airstrikes against the PKK in northern Iraq and the ISIS militants in northern Syria.
