A German tourist was killed and three other German nationals were injured when their car crashed into another car in the southern Turkish city of Antalya yesterday.
Tourists were heading to their hotel with their Turkish driver when the car crashed into another car in the opposite lane. Donata Schindler, 55, succumbed to her wounds at the hospital she was brought to while Julia Schindler, Miriam Schindler and Johann Schindler sustained injuries.
Traffic accidents are a major concern for Turkey where 1,559 people were killed in the first six months of 2015.
Despite repeated awareness campaigns, regular vehicle inspections and strict fines against motorists violating traffic safety regulations, figures reveal the accidents show no sign of a significant decline, with more than 3,500 people killed in traffic accidents throughout the last year. Reckless driving is viewed as one of the major causes of accidents.
