A new regulation by the government that will come into force in January bans the sale of unpackaged cheese, a common sight in Turkey's open-air marketplaces. The regulation also orders a decrease in the salt content of cheeses. Cheese, a staple of Turkish breakfast, will now only be sold in hygienic environments, such as grocery stores and in proper packaging. The regulation also bans aromatic additives such as goat milk aroma in the production of cheese and branding the cheese with adjectives such as "traditional cheese" or "village cheese" in an effort to prevent deception of consumers.
