The Turkish government closed down several websites after reports of families selling their children online. An inquiry revealed couples with pregnant mothers put their unborn children up for sale on websites disguised as online forums. Upon the request by the Family and Social Policies Ministry, courts ordered the closure of six websites, while eight others face investigations. A user on one of the websites that was not closed yet said in her post that she is 27-weeks pregnant and looking for someone to adopt her unborn child for an undisclosed sum. Other posts offer large sums for babies on sale, as well as covering the hospital expenses for childbirth.
