The World Car Free Day was marked in various locations throughout Turkey in which cyclists paraded central squares, demanding more space and safety in traffic for cyclists.

For the last three years, the day has also been marked by cyclists as "Fancy Women Cycling Tour" in various cities, in which women's issues are voiced in colorful events.

This year, female cyclists dressed up in their fanciest clothes toured the provinces of Adana, Çorum, Eskişehir, Ordu, Zonguldak and the towns of Ayvalık and Datça to mark the event.

In the western province of Manisa, cyclists held a 15 kilometer-long tour to mark the victims of the July 15 coup attempt, while also increasing the public's attention on cycling in urban locations.

Some 1,200 bikers gathered in the northwestern city of Tekirdağ for the 28 kilometer-long tour, the first of its kind in Turkey's Thrace region.

A 6 kilometer-long city tour was also held in northern Bartın province, which was attended by the governor, police chief and gendarmerie commander.

On Saturday, some 400 cyclists started a 184 kilometer-long tour in western Izmir province which will be held between the towns of Selçuk and Bergama which host the UNESCO-listed ancient cities of Ephesus and Pergamon.
