The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has published a report titled, "The Analysis of the Victory of the National Will on July 15," which details the unfolding of events in last year's failed coup attempt on July 15, perpetrated by the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ). The report, prepared by the AK Party deputy chairmanship of social policies, analyzes various factors as well as the political and social dynamics that propelled the July 15 resistance.
The 304-page report, comprised of six parts, includes an assessment by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the coup attempt. Pointing out numerous milestones have been overcome in the history of multiple nations and countries which have determined the future of nations, President Erdoğan says that June 15, 2016 was a milestone for Turkey and the Turkish nation. The report includes 166 face-to-face interviews conducted with the relatives of those who were killed as well as the personal accounts of 1,517 others who were wounded in the putsch attempt. The report narrates the events which took place on the night of the coup in chronological order and contains findings regarding the socioeconomic backgrounds of those who were killed or wounded.
According to data, the average age of those killed was 36, while the youngest coup victim was 15 years of age and the oldest 63. The youngest person wounded in the coup attempt was just nine years old and the oldest was 83. The report also includes the causes of deaths of the victims. According to the findings, 47.5 percent of all deaths resulted from gunshot wounds, 21 percent from airstrikes, 9 percent from being crushed under tanks, 3 percent from gunfire from military helicopters and 4.2 percent from shrapnel. The report also indicates that 39.8 percent of those wounded were shot by firearms in the course of the conflict, 27.8 percent were hit with shrapnel, 6.9 percent were hit by gunfire from helicopters, 7.9 percent were wounded under tanks and 2.9 percent were injured in airstrikes. Of those who suffered injuries, 6.6 percent lost limbs as a result of their wounds.
The conclusion of the report reiterates that the main element that differentiates the July 15 coup attempt from other coups in Turkish history is the resistance that was shown by nation and the victory obtained as a result of this.
