The Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) brought moments of happiness to displaced children in the Gaza Strip through its “Cheerful Children Project,” offering ice cream, snacks and entertainment amid the territory’s severe humanitarian crisis.
The project provided morale and psychosocial support to children living in displacement camps, temporary shelters and schools across Gaza, where millions have been displaced by Israeli attacks.
Kızılay teams used mobile vehicles to reach children in different parts of Gaza, distributing around 1,000 products daily. During the summer, the aid included ice cream and cold drinks, while sweets were distributed during the winter.
The mobile teams also organized clown shows, games and other activities to help children briefly escape the difficult conditions surrounding them.
“The Cheerful Children Project aims to bring happiness and joy to displaced children living in camps, shelters and schools,” Saadi Debbur, head of the Turkish Red Crescent’s Gaza office, told Anadolu Agency (AA).
The project began in February and continued during Ramadan, when teams distributed traditional Ramadan desserts to children.
Around 2.15 million of Gaza’s approximately 2.4 million residents were living in tents and temporary shelters after their homes were destroyed in Israeli attacks.
Kızılay also continued to provide humanitarian assistance in Gaza alongside its child-focused morale and psychosocial support activities.
