Şırnak Governor Ali İhsan Su on Wednesday shared details of the operations in the Cizre district and said that more than 16,000 patients received treatment from emergency services, dispelling misinformation that people had been unable to reach health services.
"In this period, apart from those who could not be reached due to terrorist attacks on ambulances, 3,438 incidents were responded to, 16,168 patients received treatment by emergency services and 285 births were performed," Su said. There were reports both in some Turkish and international media outlets that health services were lacking and many people could not receive treatment.
In addition to health services, Su said that the necessary precautions had been taken for people's food needs by delivering food packages to markets and bakeries. "Some 10,549 food packages were delivered to those in need, including milk, baby food and diapers," he added. Electricity, water and other infrastructural requirements were also provided by the governorate, his statement further said.
"Some 708 barricades were demolished, 263 ditches were filled and 1,409 handmade explosives were destroyed," Su added. He contended that public order has been restored and locals now live in peace.
Turkish authorities on Wednesday lifted a 79-day curfew on Cizre for certain periods of time, the regional governor's office said. The curfew will continue to be in effect from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day, according to the statement.
