PKK terrorists attack outposts in Hakkari simultaneously

PKK terrorists attacked several outposts in the Şemdinli district of the southeastern province of Hakkari Friday night before fleeing the scene after security forces retaliated in kind with machine guns and mortar fire.

They attacked several outposts near the Iraqi border and security forces responded to the attack by hitting targets in the Balkaya Mountains with artillery. A car in the village close to the clash was damaged.

Elsewhere, security forces and village guards clashed with the PKK, which blocked a road and conducted illegal identity checks on passing drivers in the Kulp district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. No casualties were reported in the incident.

300 kilograms of explosives destroyed in Batman

Security forces destroyed around 300 kilograms of roadside explosives in the southeastern province of Batman were by on Friday.

Forces found the explosives set in plastic barrels during the operation in Beşiri and destroyed the explosives in an empty area 15 kilometers from Batman.

Previously, three PKK militants were arrested on Wednesday in the same province and sent to prison.

Security forces have been so far destroyed over 5,000 explosive devices with a blast zone of 1 square kilometer in the southeast.

According to data compiled by the state-run Anadolu Agency in May, a total of 5,079 devices, whose combined weight was 140 tons, have been dealt with in Turkey's southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak and Hakkari during anti-terror operations.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015. Since then, more than 430 security personnel and more than 3,800 PKK terrorists have been killed.
