The mayor of the Hani district in the southeastern Diyarbakır province was replaced Wednesday with an appointed administrator after an investigation was launched by the Interior Ministry due to his alleged links to the PKK terrorist organization.
Hani Deputy District Governor Ersin Tepeli was appointed as the new administrator Wednesday.
On Sept. 30, ex-Hani Mayor Abdurrahman Zorlu from the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), the local wing of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was removed from duty as he was charged with "affiliation in an armed terrorist organization." After a court investigation, Zorlu was detained by the Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office.
