PKK planned to hit economically significant targets

The PKK terrorist group has been preparing plans to launch attacks on economically significant targets, a PKK terrorist captured in western İzmir province said in his testimony.Having been captured in İzmir, 23-year-old Mehmet Demir confessed in his testimony that the terrorist group was planning to hit valuable targets such as the Petkim oil refinery.
Demir said that the PKK has recently sent militants to western provinces, who do not have any criminal records, which is why he also came to İzmir. He added that he snuck into Turkey from the Northern Iraqi border.
Stressing that the PKK recruited university students, Demir said that the police couldn't track them since they have no criminal past.
The terrorist also said that he gathered information about the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) buildings and police department headquarters in İzmir to prepare attacks.
5 PKK terrorists killed in southeast
A total of five PKK terrorists were killed and 18 PKK targets were destroyed in eastern and southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq Wednesday by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), according to military sources.
According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, fighter jets executed an air operation in a rural area of the Cukurca district in the southeastern province of Hakkari.
Eleven targets, including shelters, caves and mortar emplacements, were destroyed and three terrorists were killed.
Meanwhile, seven other targets, including shelters and caves, were destroyed in the Metina and Gara regions of Northern Iraq.
In addition, two terrorists were killed during a clash between security forces and the terrorists in the İpekyolu district of eastern Van province, according to security sources. The sources said that the terrorists had been preparing an attack against the police.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU, and resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
