With the PKK terrorist group targeting Justice and Development Party (AK Party) politicians as well as anyone they deem as "critical opposition" including the supporters of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu gave a presentation during the AK Party's Afyonkarahisar 25th Advisory and Assessment Camp over the weekend. He told the attendees that the government plans to provide armed guards for those politicians serving in the eastern and southeastern provinces to protect themselves from the PKK. "The cult [referring to the PKK] is aiming to make it impossible to do politics in the region," Soylu said. "We will give a gun license to those politicians, even the provincial heads, in the region. We will also provide guards. even the village guards as security if needed."
Recently, the PKK assassinated Aydın Muştu, the AK Party's district deputy head in the eastern province of Van, on Oct. 9, which was followed by the assassination of AK Party Dicle district head Deryan Aktert in the southeastern Diyarbakır province on Oct. 10 by PKK terrorists. The AK Party government discussed measures and ways to provide protection against the PKK terrorists for every politician serving in the region as Soylu further vowed to make the village guards more safe and secure while adding that the matter has been addressed with Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım at the Afyon retreat. Underlining that the aim of the terror groups, through the Gezi Park protests, Dec 17-25 coup attempts by the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), Oct 6 -7 Kobani events and various bombings in Ankara and Istanbul was to create a chaotic environment in Turkey, Soylu said, "They [terror groups] aimed to create chaos in our country through bombings and armed attacks."
Touching on the developments in Syria and their impact on Turkey since 2013, Soylu stressed that FETÖ, the PKK and Daesh have three fundamental goals in conducting attacks in Turkey. "Destabilize Turkey. Prevent Turkey's interest and monitoring over the geography it's surrounded by through keeping it [Turkey] busy. Create an uncontrollable image of the country," Soylu said, listing the three goals of the terror groups. He further said that the terror groups aim to transfer the unstable and chaotic environment that emerged in Syria in 2011 to Turkey.
