Three security guards on duty were wounded in a PKK attack on late Sunday at the office of the ruling Justice and Development (AK Party) in the district of Kızıltepe in Mardin. The attack became the last of the organization's series of assassination attempts towards politicians in southeastern Turkey.
The guards at the building were hurt by improvised explosives and gun wounds from the terrorists, and were rushed to Mardin State Hospital and are in good condition now, the source said to Anadolu Agency, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Following the attack, security forces started an operation to apprehend the terrorists in the region.
As the PKK's attempts to bring war to urban areas collapsed due to the successful counter-terror operations and the lack of cooperation from the people in the region, the organization has introduced a new strategy in their terror campaign, assassinating political figures - most of them Kurdish politicians- in southeastern Turkey, who refuse to adhere to their policies.
In early October, two district-level politicians from the AK Party, Deryan Aktert and Aydın Muştu, were assassinated by the PKK. A councilman of Erciş Municipality who was appointed in a state decree, Mehmet Şerif Doğu, was also assassinated by the terrorist organization in the front of his home.
On Oct. 19, the leader of the PKK Murat Karayılan claimed responsibility for the assassination of the aforementioned two district-level politicians and a state administrator in southeastern Turkey and threatened other administrators and politicians in the region with death in his interview with Kurdsat News TV channel.
