A high ranking PKK terrorist, who was reportedly one of the perpetrators of the bomb-laden car attack against the Adana Governorate in November 2016, was captured earlier this week.
The terrorist, Eyüp Ç., is reportedly responsible for the terrorist group's activities in the Mediterranean region. After the terrorist confessed, 80 PKK suspects were detained from the Mediterranean network of the terrorist group.
In addition, weapons and ammunition belonging to the PKK were seized following Eyüp Ç.'s confession.
The 2nd High Criminal Court in the southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak ruled for Ferhat Encü, a lawmaker from the pro-PKK Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) accused of being a member of the PKK terrorist group, to be released pending a trial.
Encü was detained on Nov. 4, 2016, under a counterterrorism investigation run by the Şırnak Public Prosecutor's office. The prosecutors demanded up to 15 years in jail for Encü on charges of being a member of an armed terrorist organization.
In November, 13 HDP lawmakers were also arrested, and 10 of them – including HDP co-leaders Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ – remain in custody pending trials on terrorism-related charges.
