FT also points out that there are still huge hurdles, however states that whether Turkey eventually joins the EU or not, it is completing a transformation "into a vibrant democracy, dynamic economy and admired regional power."
The article goes on to list three ways the EU still has a chance to reengage Turkey, a nation in which Islam and democracy cohabit, writes FT.
"There are three ways to re-engage Turkey. As talks resume, the EU should remove visa requirements for Turkish businessmen, start re-inviting Turkish leaders to summits, and involve Turkey's defense establishment in EU foreign and security policy," writes the FT article.
