SYDNEY — A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck off the Solomon Islands Sunday night, hours after a 7.6 tremor, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
