The 2026 excavation and environmental landscaping works have begun at the ancient city of Amos in the Marmaris district of southwestern Türkiye’s Muğla province.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s “Heritage for the Future Project,” excavations began July 20.
The initiative is sponsored by the Marmaris Chamber of Commerce, Marmaris Municipality, Martı Hotel and Marina and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. A team led by excavation director associate professor Mehmet Gürbüzer is participating in the project.
Crews are landscaping, clearing vegetation and repairing the areas along the ancient city’s walking routes and its civic structures, necropolis and theater.
At the viewing terrace, work is underway to expand and reinforce the existing protective barrier to improve visitor safety and help preserve the historic site.
Ongoing work at Amos, one of Marmaris’ important archaeological heritage sites, has continued since 2019 to preserve the area’s historical and cultural heritage, uncover its remains through scientific research and safeguard them for future generations.
