Barcelona are reportedly closing in on the signing of Manchester City midfielder and Spain captain Rodrigo Hernandez, with the two clubs said to have reached a preliminary agreement worth about 76.5 million euros ($88.5 million), according to multiple media reports.
The 30-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a four-year contract with the reigning La Liga champions, keeping him at the club through 2030, with the transfer reportedly set to be completed in the coming days.
Reports say Manchester City will receive an initial fee of around $69 million for Rodri, with more than $13 million in performance-related add-ons also potentially included in the agreement. The final value of the deal could therefore rise significantly if the midfielder meets the required targets.
Rodri entered the final year of his contract at Manchester City and had reportedly shown little willingness to extend his stay. Media reports added that the Spain international favored a move to Camp Nou.
The midfielder would leave City after seven highly successful seasons, having joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2019 for what was then a club-record transfer fee. He quickly became an important part of Pep Guardiola’s midfield and developed into one of the most influential players in the Premier League.
During his time at the Etihad Stadium, Rodri made 298 appearances and helped City win 12 major trophies. His honors include four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups and the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League, further establishing his reputation as one of the leading midfielders of his generation.
Although injuries limited him during the 2024-25 campaign and parts of last season, he returned to top form at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, captaining Spain to the title and being named the tournament's Golden Ball winner.
His arrival at Camp Nou would also reunite him with several Spain teammates, including Joan García, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri and Lamine Yamal. Their presence could help Rodri settle quickly at Barcelona as he becomes part of a squad that formed the core of Spain’s World Cup-winning side.
