Nearly 3.3 million people have benefited from Türkiye’s Family Support Centers (ADEM), which provide women with vocational training and programs aimed at supporting their personal and professional development, Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said Wednesday.

In a written statement, Göktaş said 596 ADEM centers operating across the country have offered courses and training programs since 2012, focusing on women’s psychosocial, sociocultural, professional and personal development.

The centers also support families and children through programs covering child-rearing, health, personal development, combating domestic violence, preventing child neglect and abuse, substance addiction and vocational training.

Göktaş said vocational courses are designed according to local conditions and needs and are delivered by qualified instructors. Participants also have access to conferences, seminars and other educational programs alongside vocational training.

She said the centers aim to strengthen women’s participation in economic life by helping them develop professional skills and create products that can generate income.

Childcare supports participation

Childcare facilities and children’s playrooms are required at ADEM centers to enable parents to participate in courses and activities without disrupting their family lives, Göktaş said.

Playrooms offer children a safe environment under the supervision of specialists assigned by the Ministry of National Education (MEB), while allowing parents to attend training programs.

The centers have also introduced Family Communication Workshops, where families can participate in seminars, workshops, competitions and indoor and outdoor activities together.

Göktaş said the ministry is accelerating efforts to strengthen the family institution under the Decade of Family and Population initiative.

She also highlighted efforts to improve waste management at the centers, including more efficient use of resources, waste reduction and recycling.

Products made by women during vocational courses belong to the participants, Göktaş said, adding that periodic bazaars give them an opportunity to sell their products and earn income.
