South Korean singer Kwon Eunbi and K-pop group ATEEZ performed on Aug. 14 for fans at the 5th annual Istanbul Festival, presented by Focus Istanbul Event Management. They were followed on Aug. 15 by performances from singer Sunmi and K-pop group MONSTA X.

The festival, which ran from Aug. 1-16, was organized in cooperation with the Korean Cultural Center to mark the National Liberation Day of Korea, according to a statement from Focus Istanbul.

South Korean Ambassador to Ankara Boo Sukjong, speaking at the concert, said South Korea and Türkiye were not only friendly countries but also "brother countries" connected by blood ties.

"The courage and sacrifice shown by Turkish soldiers during the Korean War became a strong foundation for the existence of today's Republic of Korea," Boo said. "The Korean people deeply remember and are grateful for this support."

Boo said he was deeply moved to see young Turkish fans singing along to Korean lyrics and cheering enthusiastically during the Istanbul Festival's Korean Days.

"On the foundation of historical solidarity, our friendship has met with cultural interaction and transformed into a more modern and dynamic relationship," he said. "I once again strongly felt this on the occasion of today's event."

Boo also thanked the organizers for including Korean artists in the festival's Korean Days celebrations.

Özlem Adıgüzel, CEO of Focus Istanbul Event Management, said that bringing different cultures together through music, art, gastronomy and traditions contributes significantly to mutual understanding and friendship.

"We are very happy to be part of such a colorful and international gathering in Istanbul's cultural and artistic calendar," Adıgüzel said.

Kwon Eunbi opened the concert, performing popular songs from different stages of her solo career, including "Door," "Hi," "Hello Stranger" and "Unnatural," accompanied by a dance crew and visual effects.

ATEEZ followed with synchronized choreography and high-energy performances, including "Say My Name," "BOUNCY (K-HOT CHILLI PEPPERS)," "WORK" and "Enough."

Festival combines music, sports

The festival's main stage, inspired by Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan's approach to structural design and the geometry of arches, also drew attention.

The stage was approximately 70 meters wide and 28 meters high and featured 1,300 square meters of LED screens, 800 moving lighting fixtures and a line-array sound system consisting of 176 units.

The festival's Young Stage hosted live performances, DJ sets, dance shows, talks and interactive activities. The 3x3 basketball court featured tournaments, exhibition games and various competitions.

With brand experience areas, children's activities and a range of food options, the Istanbul Festival brought together music, sports and entertainment.
